You're in God's Wallet

I do a lot of driving and one day, passing a familiar church, I saw a great sign. It said, “If God had a wallet, your picture would be in it.” It gave me a good chuckle to start my day. It also got me to thinking – do I really believe that? Do I really believe that God cares about me that deeply?

That is what we have just celebrated at Christmas. That God, in love beyond all telling, became one of us, to show us the way back to being who we were originally created to be. That God loves each of us so deeply that the very Spirit of God dwells in us and connects us intimately to every part of creation.

‘Now, just a minute,’ you may be thinking. ‘You mean that the Creator and Sustainer of all the universe is that in touch with little old me? Come on!’
Most Christian mystics believe so. St. Ignatius of Loyola believes so. In fact, his famous Spiritual Exercises are based on the deep conviction that God loves each of us unconditionally and desires to have a personal relationship with each of us.

In the upcoming Day Apart Offering, “Ignatian Spirituality: God Wants a Personal Relationship with You,” we will be exploring that belief of Ignatius. We’ll examine how his Spiritual Exercises can help each of us develop a deeper relationship with God and ourselves through Jesus. I hope you can join us.

In the meantime, if you are so inclined, consider praying with the following scripture passage: Isaiah 43:1-4; reflect on it as God speaking to you personally. And know that God really does have your picture – if not in a wallet, always in His heart.

Register for Jim's Day Apart on  March 11th from 9:30am-3:30pm.
