I'm Looking for a Spiritual Directorwith Rolling Ridge staff
Meister Eckhart (1260–1329) was among the most popular preachers of his time. His teaching not only focused on deep contemplation but about deep action on behalf of the peasants and the Beguines (the women’s movement of the Middle ages). Such alliances ultimately led to his being put on trial and condemned by a corrupt papacy. He took on the vested power interests of patriarchy, economic privilege, and religiosity in his day — and he paid a steep price for it. After his condemnation his work was buried deep in the western religious consciousness for centuries but influenced many Buddhist thinkers, Sufis, Hindus, Carl Jung and Karl Marx, Thomas Merton and Thich Naht Hanh and many more movers and shakers.
Like Rumi, his thinking was deeply ecumenical, encompassing wisdom that one can find in Jewish, Sufi, Buddhist, and Hindu mystical traditions as well as in shamanism and indigenous spirituality. Eckhart advocated for social, economic, and gender justice; championed an earth-based spirituality and a cosmic consciousness, and taught how we are all artists whose vocation is to birth the Cosmic Christ (or Buddha Nature). We will explore and discuss some of his rich teachings.
“Matthew Fox is perhaps the greatest writer on Meister Eckhart that has ever existed. No on Paints as broad a portrait of the master as Fox does in this book.” -- Steven Herrmann, author of Spiritual Democracy
“A stunning new vision of Christianity that transcends both creeds and boundaries. It is a thrilling read.” –John Shelby Spong, author of The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic
“Fox has given us yet another radioactive, stunning work. Every chapter is a pure, clear, and swift revelation.” -- Andrew Harvey, author of The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism
