St. Clare of Assisi: The Patron Saint of Television

Program Details

In preparation for the Feast Day of St. Clare of Assisi (August 11th), we invite you to join us for a HYBRID day retreat to remember the patron saint of television. Yes, St. Clare of Assisi is the patron saint of television, but she was (and is) so much more than that. We will spend the day looking at the life of Clare, her spirituality of "gazing", and explain why she is the patron saint of television and today, why she might even be considered the patron saint of Zoom! For that reason, we are creating this event to be intentionally HYBRID with both in-person and online participation. The day together will be filled with times of corporate conversation and private reflection around visual prompts to lead to deeper prayer. We invite you to discover the beauty of visio divina and the spiritual legacy of St. Clare, as we consider the mystery of seeing and hearing that which is beyond our walls.

About the Leaders

Lawrence Jay

As Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jay guides the vision and direction of Rolling Ridge. As well as working with our staff to ensure the best possible guest experience, he partners with retreat leaders to provide excellent programming at the Ridge. A trained spiritual director and ordained American Baptist pastor, Larry (as he is known by friends) is a graduate of UCLA, Golden Gate Seminary, Franciscan School of Theology, American Baptist Seminary of the West, and the Gateways to God Missional Spiritual Direction Program. He is also Adjunct Faculty at Merrimack College in the Masters of Spirituality and Spiritual Direction programs. Eco-spirituality is his passion (and was the subject of his doctoral dissertation), encouraging everyone to live into the fullness of our connection with nature, God, and all people.
