In three weeks, the journey of Lent begins as followers of Jesus consider the ways of the cross on the road to Easter. In some ways, Lent can feel like the chill of winter as the darkness and cold press in, as we wait for warmth and the light of spring, new life, and resurrection. We invite you to join us at Rolling Ridge during this wintry season of Lent as you consider the Holy Solitude of this season.
Our annual 7 week Lenten Prayer Journey begins Sunday, February 18th with Holy Solitude: Lenten Reflections with Saints, Hermits, Prophets, and Rebels by Heidi Haverkamp serving as our guide. During the Vesper Hour from 6:00 to 7:00 pm EST through Easter, these weekly ONLINE gatherings become an invitation to lean into the Lenten season with new intentionality with contemplative reflection and Taize music bringing shape to the hour of prayer.
In preparing for Lent, Haverkamp encourages a retreat during the first week. Even if you do not join us weekly for our Lenten Prayer Journey, Rolling Ridge has multiple retreat opportunities to help you begin Lent on solid spiritual grounds.
The first retreat option is our one day in-person Taize Lenten Quiet Day on Wednesday, February 21st from 9:30-3:30 pm. Music, silence, scripture, and the Stations of the Cross will create the framework for you to listen for God and to prepare your heart for Easter. Along with opportunities to reflect, journal, and create, there will be time to explore the beautiful grounds of Rolling Ridge, to walk the labyrinth, and to sit by Lake Cochichewick. There will always be much too much to do on your list. Lent marks a good time to go on retreat, even if it is just for a day.
If you have the luxury of time to get away, our newest retreat option is our Lenten Companioned Retreat which invites you to join us at the Ridge for up to three days with two overnights. With the Taize Lenten Quiet Day on Wednesday included in your registration, you can spend the night before and/or after and meet with a spiritual director so to begin Lent with a companion for your soul. (Overnight options without spiritual direction are also available upon registration.) Lent marks a good time to fast from the busy-ness, and to be present with the Creator of the world who sent Jesus to be our light and hope.
Along with the one-day Taize Lenten Quiet Day and our overnight Lenten Companioned Retreat, Rolling Ridge is offering three other one-day retreats to companion you on the journey towards Easter. The focus of our Lenten retreats is embodied spirituality as we invite you to consider how art, yoga, and tai-chi can deepen your faith in the incarnate One, Jesus, who revealed the perfect union of body and spirit, the human and Divine.
May your Lenten Journey be enriched as you consider the Holy Solitude of this season, and find community and wholeness through your embodied journey while on retreat at Rolling Ridge.
